Navigating the Navigation Bar

Get to know your way around the Kami navigation bar, your access point to all Kami tools and features.

Who is this for?

👤 The Navigation Bar is available to Students and Teachers.

👤 This is a free feature; users on any Kami plan can use this.


This guide helps discover all the options in Kami's top menu, aka the Navigation Bar. For more information about the features in the left side menu, explore the Kami toolbar.

 

What is the Navigation Bar?

The Navigation Bar is located at the top of your screen in the Kami app. It lets you access various settings and tools for your Kami files and account.

Kami Dashboard

Selecting the Kami logo in the far-right of the Navigation Bar will bring you to the main Kami Dashboard.
 
If you select this by mistake, no need to worry, as all your changes are automatically saved in Kami. Just reopen the file to pick up where you left off!

Annotation Bank (🔒)

Selecting this opens the Annotation Bank, where you can view your saved annotations.

Note: This feature is only available to Teachers on a paid Kami plan.

Current File info/edit options

Towards the middle of the Navigation Bar, you will see the name of the file currently open in Kami.

To the left is the folder where the file is currently stored. You can select this to view the folder directory and open a different file in Kami.Screenshot of the Kami app top navigation bar with the file and folder name section highlighted.

To the right is a drop-down arrow, which displays several file edit options when selected:

Rename — Modify the name of your file.

Move — Change the location of where your file is stored.

Open Folder — Opens the folder directory where the file is currently stored. Only shown if the file has been uploaded to an online storage drive.

Show in Drive — Opens the file location in your drive in a separate tab. This option is only shown if the file has been uploaded to an online storage drive.

View tracked copies — View other copies of this particular file (if it has been previously uploaded to Kami with annotations).

Cloud Saving

If you have not already uploaded your Kami file to an online storage drive, selecting this option will prompt you to upload it to Google Drive or OneDrive to automatically update the file there as you work.

If your file has already been uploaded to Google Drive or OneDrive, a message will appear indicating that your changes have been saved.

Undo / Redo

Use these options to reverse the recent changes made to your file.

File

Selecting this option opens the File menu with the following options:

Create assignment — Creates an assignment in your configured LMS. This option is only available to Teachers.

Save changes to Drive — Force a save to your storage drive. This option will be greyed out if the file has already been auto-saved to your drive.

Annotation summary — Opens the annotation summary pane, which shows the history of your file's annotation changes.

Restore annotations — Restore previously deleted annotations.

Delete all annotations — Removes all current annotations from your file.

Open file — Open a different file in Kami.

Open recent — Open a recently opened file in Kami.

View

Selecting this option opens the View menu with the following options:

Presentation mode — This view hides the Kami tools and menu bars, displaying the document alone (including any annotations made).

Hide off-page comments — Hides any Comment tool annotations.

Rotate — Rotates the document clockwise or counterclockwise.

Page view — Control how your document is displayed, either in two-page view or on a single page.

Screen masking — Enables the screen masking accessibility feature. Learn more about screen masking.

Invert document colors — Enables the inverted color display accessibly option. Learn more about Invert document colors.

Export

Selecting this option opens the Export menu with the following options:

Export — Save the file to your device, Google Drive, or OneDrive with customizable options.

Quick Download — Save the file to your device with one click. All annotations will be included and unflattened.

Print Original — Open the original file (with no annotations) in your device's Print preview window.

Print with annotations — Open the annotated file in your device's Print preview window.

Tools

Selecting this option opens the Tools menu with the following options:

Split & Merge — Opens the Split & Merge tool.

Text Recognition — Runs the Text Recognition tool.

Search

Selecting this option opens the Search bar, where you can search for keywords within your document (excluding tools or features).

Share

This button opens the Share menu, which displays various options depending on where your file has been saved. Learn more about sharing files from Kami.

Accounts and Settings button

This button opens the Account menu with the following options:

General user information — Find the username, email, and role of the user account currently logged in.

Settings — Opens the Settings menu, where you can find license info, AI opt-in/opt-out, and more.

License dashboard — Opens the License Dashboard in a separate tab, where you can manage your licenses or see the status of your school's license.

Display language — Change the language shown for tools and navigation in Kami.

Theme — Change the display setting between Dark and Light mode.

Enter Coupon — Used to apply a license/coupon if you have received one.
